The Great Blue Hole

The Great Blue Hole is a giant marine sinkhole. This hole is circular in shape and is about 318m across and 124m deep. It was formed during several episodes of Quaternary glaciation when the sea level was lower. This hole contains a thick layer of hydrogen sulfide.

There is no oxygen and life inside the hole. There are just conch shells and hermit crab inside the hole. This is like a big dry cave.



This place is among the top five scuba diving sites in the world and the best place for beach vacations. Scuba divers who like to dive in crystal clear water can enjoy several species of fish like Parrot-fish, sharks. Often sharks species like bull sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, and hammerheads can also be found here. It is a popular tourist destination where people love to spend their vacations.
