Ko Tao Island- One Of The Most Popular Tourist Spots

Ko Tao is an island in Thailand situated on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand. The island is a part of the Chumphon Archipelago. It is spread in an area of 21 km2 (8 sq mi). Administratively it is a sub district (tambon) of Ko Pha-ngan District (Amphoe) of Surat Thai Province. The main settlement is Ban Mae Haad and the official population was 1382 as of 2006.



Green turtle, hawksbill, whale sharks, bull sharks, and including 130 species are a major source of attraction on this island. The island includes 223 species of reef fishes belonging to 53 families.

Divers love Ko Tao island to explore during their divingactivities. Shallow corals near the island are getting destroyed due to the weather patterns causing warming of the water. Scuba diving is also very famous in the Gulf of Thailand. Drupella snails and crown-of-thorns starfish are increasing in the abundance. Tourism on the island is increasing for the last several decades.
